A moment of peace

I wrote this haiku while out walking the dogs on a quiet evening. The air carried a soft breeze, and with it came the scent of orange blossoms. The world seemed to slow down in that moment. No traffic, no noise, just the gentle rhythm of my steps and my dogs by my side.

The only sound that broke the silence was the steady chirp of crickets. A deep calm washed over me. In that moment there was nothing I needed to fix, nothing I need to do, nowhere else I had to be. Just the smell of flowers drifting through the air, the night alive with its subtle music, and the rare gift of stillness.

This poem is my attempt to capture that feeling: a brief but precious moment of peace. Too often, we’re caught up in what we need to do next. That evening reminded me that peace doesn’t have to be grand or complicated, sometimes it’s as simple as breathing in the night air and allowing yourself to just be.

Spring will always pass, blossoms will fall, and life will get loud again. But the memory of peace, however fleeting, stays with us, waiting to be found the next time we let ourselves slow down and listen.
