I often feel like an outsider, even when surrounded by people. Whether it’s in a crowded room, a busy city street, or even within my own career, there are times when I find myself searching for a place where I truly belong.

It’s a strange kind of loneliness, to be among others, yet unseen. You hear laughter, conversation, the pulse of life all around you, but it feels like there’s a pane of glass between you and everyone else. You’re present, but not felt.

This haiku came from that space, a quiet recognition of how isolating it can be to move through the world unseen, even as you try to connect. But I think there’s also a quiet strength in that feeling. Sometimes, invisibility allows us to observe, to understand, and to grow. It gives us a moment to reflect on who we are when no one is watching.

Belonging isn’t always found in the crowd. Sometimes it begins when we stop searching outward and learn to see ourselves clearly, even if no one else does.
